Biography

Carmelo lo Jacono is born in Marineo, the son of Antonino lo Jacono and Carmela lo Cascio. His parents are Corleone natives.

Carmelo's father, Antonio, dies at age 67 (b. 1823) on 7 April 1890.

Carmelo, carrettiere (cart driver), marries Maria Mannina, daughter of Cosimo Mannina and Bernarda Gariffo, on 21 January 1894.^[1][2][3]

Carmelo's mother, Carmela, dies at age 74 on 9 May 1898.

Carmelo attempts to emigrate in 1906. On the Vincenzo Florio, sailing from Palermo on 21 April 1906 and arriving in New Orleans 14 May 1906, the manifest names passengers from Corleone, including Carmelo, who has a line through his name, indicating he did not sail:
